The West End Park Association (WEPA) is a community group in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.
It was established almost 40 years ago to preserve the Oval Gardens as a valuable amenity for all residents of the West End Park Estate, by maintaining them in a clean and tidy condition. It also resists any attempt to build on them.
The West End Park (Estate) is a Harrogate conservation area and the 4.5 acres of gardens were established as amenity gardens for residents in the 1890s, although the gardens are in fact privately owned. They are a haven for wildlife within the town.
Maintaining the 4.5 acres of gardens is a big job, and although the work is carried out almost entirely by volunteers, it nevertheless costs money, which comes from WEPA membership subscriptions.
It’s an excellent example of community involvement to maintain and enrich the local environment
